​HHAE Board Position Descriptions

HHAE CO-CHAIRS (Two Year Term)
Any current NAEA member who is a member of the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group is eligible to serve as one of two Co-Chairs. It is the duty of each Co-Chair to preside at the annual History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group business meeting, quarterly HHAE meetings, and attend the NAEA-led Interest Group meetings. The HHAE Co-Chairs will appoint a NAEA Delegate that can serve in-person during the NAEA Delegates Assembly that is usually held one day before the annual NAEA conference. The HHAE Co-Chairs will locate and pursue possible funding sources (grants, doners, etc.), serve as ex-officio members of all committees (except the Awards and Nominations Committee), inform the members of activities and concerns of the HHAE and NAEA, and perform other duties that usually pertain to the office of the Chair. The HHAE Co-Chairs will work with the Co-Chairs Elect to develop at least two “special” HHAE-endorsed presentation proposals and a business meeting proposal for the annual NAEA conference.
 
HHAE CO-CHAIRS ELECT (Two Year Term)
Any current NAEA member who is a member of History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group is eligible to serve as Co-Chairs Elect. In the event of a Co-Chair absence, one or both Co-Chairs Elect will preside. The Co-Chair Elects shall serve in an advisory role for the HHAE Co-Chairs, assist the Co-Chairs in planning the quarterly and annual business meeting and fulfill other responsibilities delegated by the Co-Chairs. The Co-Chairs Elect will assist the Co-Chairs in writing the quarterly NAEA News column and will collect relevant content for the HHAE website when possible. The Co-Chair Elects shall investigate possible collaborations with other NAEA interest groups, start new initiatives, locate possible funding sources (grants, doners, etc.), and assist the Chair of Awards when requested. The HHAE Co-Chairs Elect will work with the Co-Chairs to develop at least two “special” HHAE-endorsed presentation proposals and a business meeting proposal for the annual NAEA conference. The Co-Chairs Elect will assume the responsibilities of the Co-Chairs in the new term and of the Immediate Past Co-Chairs in the term thereafter.
 
IMMEDIATE PAST CO-CHAIRS (Two Year Term)
It is the duty of the Immediate Past Co-Chairs to provide any assistance or assume duties as determined by the HHAE Co-Chairs. Immediate Past Co-Chairs will upload their records, files, images, etc., to the HHAE Archive within two months of vacating the Co-Chairs position.
 
SECRETARY (Two Year Term)
Any current NAEA member who is a member of History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group is eligible to serve as Secretary. It is the duty of the Secretary to take the minutes of the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group business meeting at the NAEA convention, the four quarterly meetings, and will share the minutes with the HHAE Board within a week of the meeting occurrence. The Secretary shall tally all meeting votes cast by members and will update the HHAE archive with any new content supplied by Board members. The Secretary can serve two consecutive two-year terms if successfully elected for a second term. Outstanding members will be encouraged to rejoin the boards leadership positions after taking a sabbatical year after their last term.
 
TREASURER (Two Year Term)
Any current NAEA member who is a member of History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group is eligible to serve as Treasurer. It is the duty of the Treasurer to receive and distribute funds and maintain accurate financial records, to present a financial report to the annual business meeting, and to fulfill other responsibilities delegated by the HHAE Co-Chairs. The Treasurer will report all income and expenses at the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group Business Meeting. The Treasurer will also work with NAEA to collect dues and to maintain a relationship with NAEA to distribute funds and facilitate appropriate communication to sustain this relationship. The Treasurer can serve two consecutive two-year terms if successfully elected for a second term. Outstanding members will be encouraged to rejoin the boards leadership positions after taking a sabbatical year after their last term.
 
CHAIR OF COMMUNICATION AND MEMBERSHIP (Two Year Term)
Any current NAEA member who is a member of the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in HHAE is eligible to serve as Chair of Communication and Membership. It is the duty of the Chair of Communication and Membership to assist with the HHAE official webpage and other HHAE-related web/online presence as needed (i.e., social media, NAEA COLLOBRATE message board), and to work cooperatively with the other committees and all officers to make appropriate information available on these web environments. The Chair of Communication and Membership will maintain contact information for all HHAE members. The Chair of Communication and Membership will assist the Co-Chairs in writing the quarterly NAEA News column and will collect relevant content for the HHAE website when possible. The Chair of Communication and Membership can serve two consecutive two-year terms if successfully elected for a second term. Outstanding members will be encouraged to rejoin the boards leadership positions after taking a sabbatical year after their last term.
 
CHAIR OF BEST PRACTICES IN HISTORY AND HISTORIOGRAPHY IN ART EDUCATION (Two Year Term)
The Chair of Best Practices in History and Historiography in Art Education is an appointed position. The HHAE Co-Chairs decide and invite the distinguished scholar. Any current NAEA member who is a member of the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and does not currently hold another office in HHAE is eligible to serve as Chair of Best Practices in History and Historiography in Art Education. It is the duty of the Chair of Best Practices in History and Historiography in Art Education to support the Chair in reporting best practices and related content in the NAEA newsletter, HHAE publications, HHAE-related web/online presence (i.e. social media), and work cooperatively with the Board and other officers to manage the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group public activities.
 
CHAIR OF AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS (Two Year Term)
The Chair of Awards and Nominations organizes alone or with a committee. It is the task of the Chair of Awards and Nominations to suggest and develop new awards to be presented to the Board, create advertisements for current awards, organize the nominations for awards, and generate the voting schedule and processes for each award. The Chair of Awards and Nominations will develop the annual NAEA conference proposal and format for the HHAE awards ceremony. The Chair of Awards and Nominations will provide the Chair of Communication and Membership with advertisements and other content to be sent out to HHAE members and the wider NAEA membership. The HHAE Co-Chairs and Co-Chairs Elect will work together with the Chair of Awards and Nominations to ensure the award processes are transparent and fair.
 
CHAIR OF PUBLICATIONS (TRADITIONAL AND ALTERNATIVE) (Two Year Term)
The Chair of Publications organizes alone or with a committee to investigate the ways that art education histories are documented with contemporary cultural publications. Traditional publications are often reputable peer reviewed journals and books. Alternative publications are often created to reach specific, local readerships. Minicomics, zines, pamphlets, artists’ books, doujinshi, and underground comix represent moments in cultural history that conventional forms of publishing would typically exclude. The Chair of Publications will locate publishing opportunities, review books or articles for publication in Art Education and Studies, and locate a small circulation works of self-published or independently-published documents, including but not limited to underground comix and zines, relating to art education. The Chair of Publications is responsible for reporting the findings to the board and providing content for the Chair of Communication and Membership, the HHAE website, and the NAEA News column. The chair will also provide a report at the annual business meeting and offer recommendations for next steps of future inquiry. The Chair of Publications can serve two consecutive two-year terms if successfully elected for a second term. Outstanding members will be encouraged to rejoin the boards leadership positions after taking a sabbatical year after their last term.
           
DELEGATE (To the NAEA’s General Assembly and Inter-Affiliate Council)
The Delegate is appointed by the Chair at the start of their term for one year and may not exceed two consecutive terms in office. It is the duty of the Delegate to review information sent from NAEA during the year and send a summary of all pertinent information to the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group Executive Board. It is the duty of the Delegate to attend Delegate Session(s) held during the NAEA annual convention (usually held one day prior to the NAEA annual convention’s official commencement). If the Delegate is unable to attend, the Chair will appoint a replacement and advise the Executive Board of this process. It is also the duty of the Delegate to attend the HHAE annual business meeting and report on actions taken at the Delegates’ Assembly, complete and return the annual Delegate’s report solicited from NAEA, act as the History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group Representative of the Inter-Affiliate Council, including attendance at the Council’s annual business meeting (typically held at the NAEA national convention), and work with other History and Historiography in Art Education Interest Group and Inter-Affiliate officers during the year to respond to relevant issues and events as they occur.
